Perjalananku Meraih Beasiswa Part 4: Manisnya Ditolak Supervisor

wm.php

Dear Kurniati,
Unfortunately, I am not accepting any research students at this time. Good luck with your search for an alternative supervisor.
Regards,
James D*******

Dear Kurniati,

We have now studied your cv and thought about a possible DIK**-N*** Ph.D special c****** scholarship.

I regret to let you know that we see insufficient possibilities for such a scholarship at our research institute. One of the issues that might be problematic had to do with the quality of English language. I wish you the best as to your further research plans.

 Kind regards,

maichel k********

Dear Kurniati
Thank you for providing the further information, and apologies for taking a while to respond; the University has been closed over Christmas and we’re only just starting term again.  You work seems interesting, but I’m afraid a focus on martial arts does not fit in well with our priorities, so I think it’s unlikely we’d be a good research match.  I’m only taking a very limited number of students at the moment, and only those with a good match to my current work.
I’m sorry I’m not able to help you more at this stage, and wish you all the best with your applications elsewhere.
Best wishes
Vic B*****

Hi Kurniati,

Thanks for your email. The extent to which your work is suitable/sufficient for a PhD will depend on how novel and original it is for an international audience (and of course the other usual things – rigor, detail, etc). Without knowing about your specific research questions, that’s really all I could say in terms of advice.

I’m not accepting doctoral students at the moment, and I must admit that I’m far from an expert in mental toughness. It’s not a research interest of mine, and you’d be better off approaching Sandy Gor*** (U**) or Daniel Gu******* (Uni of Q********) if you are looking for specific advice about mental toughness work. Those two (literally) wrote the book on this concept.

In terms of people who do work on cultural issues – you might look for advice from a PhD student who works under Prof Bob G**** here at U**, Vella P*********. I’ve cc’d Vella into this email – his work focuses on cultural differences in sport psych, and I’m sure he’d be happy to answer any questions you might have on that research over email.

All the best, Ben

Hi Kurniati,

Yes, I remember you. You’re idea to use PCP for your investigation sounds interesting, and I suspect would help generate some useful information. You might consider using the experience cycle methodology (or an adaptation) of it (see attached for an example).
I’m not taking on any new PhD students at this point in time, as I have a full load.
Best of luck with the scholarship application – persistence typically pays off in the end!

Regards,
Daniel

Istimewa !!
